I was born in the Netherlands and studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Arts in Bruges, Belgium from 1966-1969.
Before moving to Australia in 1974, I had the good fortune to travel for several years through Italy, France, Spain, Morocco, England, Canada and parts of Asia.
I returned to the Netherlands with my first son in 1979 and stayed for a year, still uncertain if I could live in Australia.
Returning to Australia and settling in Denmark, Western Australia in 1980, I knew I had come “Home”, living on a beautiful property close to the Great Southern Ocean with my partner and three sons.
I taught drawing and painting at TAFE from 1982-1992.
We had a small gallery on the property which operated for several years.
I established a candle manufacturing business with my partner, which ran successfully until 2005.
Since then there has been more time to explore my passion for painting and in 2011 became part of a group of artists establishing the Butter Factory Studios and Gallery, a wonderful opportunity to work and exhibit with other artists.
Several journeys to the northern parts of Western Australia in recent years have been a great inspiration for my latest work.
I have started working on larger scale canvases, capturing the vastness and ruggedness of the landscape, creating heavily textured surfaces, using natural fibres, pigments, earth, rusty metals and bark.
